Life’s Greatest Goal

Each of those values stands not as an end in itself but in order to accomplish some greater end. The glory of God is the greatest aim of all creation, even in eternity. We believe the command of the Bible that in “whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor. 10:31) Therefore, every activity, ministry, work of service, or even inward thought of those at Buck Run Baptist should be for the sole purpose of glorifying God.

Orient your life’s purpose to accomplish the greatest goals. Some people want to do this based on the greatest goals they can think of for themselves. Maybe they can become a physician, an educator, great politician, or a famous entertainer. These are noble pursuits and can be used for the greater good of others, but if they are attained only to serve human good and especially the good of oneself, they are counted worthless. However, if you accomplish the raising of a family, or a faithful marriage, or being steadfast and caring in your profession for the purpose of bringing God glory, you are meeting the goals not only of yourself but those of the created universe under the lordship of King Jesus. The worth of something isn’t found in its human estimation. Sometimes, the seemingly mundane or ordinary can become that which is found most worthy.

For those in relationship with Jesus, the power to obey this command is given to you already. Think about Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit. (John 14:16, 26) The gift of the Spirit is God’s guarantee to you that you will have the power, strength, and ability to do everything for the glory of God. Don’t think small. That doesn’t mean do more. It doesn’t mean be better. It doesn’t mean become greater. What it does mean is that you should do everything you already do in your life for God’s glory. It is within your ability through the presence and power of God’s Spirit.

So…

Proclaim. Disciple. Serve.

…to the glory of God.
